Bill Leder, Adjunct Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Michigan Tech, will present “A Short History of Passenger Railroads in the United States.”
Passenger railroads in the United States were once the equal of those anywhere in the world. Now our passenger rail service is far behind what we find in Europe and parts of Asia. Some think Amtrak is a disgrace and should be abandoned. Others want it greatly expanded. How did this happen, and what might the future hold? Bill will explore these and other questions, injecting some humor along the route. Math skills are not required — well, mostly not.
