Forum, The Future of the Keweenaw Heartlands Project
Julia Peterson, The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) project manager for the Keweenaw Peninsula, will talk about TNC’s purchase of 32,500 acres of forestland, known as the Keweenaw Heartlands, in late 2022. TNC bought the land as an interim owner, to provide time for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the community to envision and design future public governance and management of the Heartlands.
Peterson will provide an overview of the project and talk about the community’s intent for the future of the Heartlands. She will explain how you can stay updated on and support this project. There will be time for Q&A after the presentation.
Peterson joined The Nature Conservancy in May 2023. As Keweenaw Peninsula project manager, she leads the Keweenaw Heartlands project, working closely with the local and regional community to transition this TNC land to state and local public governance and management.
