Forum: Five Parks Along Lake Superior Going Green
Five parks along Lake Superior will be among the first to be completely free of the use of fossil fuels. The Parks include: Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and Grand Portage National Monument. Denice Swanke, Superintendent of Isle Royale National Park, will describe what it means to ‘go green’ at a presentation to the Keweenaw Unitarian Fellowship on Sunday, April 16, at 10:30 AM. The presentation will be virtual and open to the public. Denice Swanke began her tenure as Superintendent of Isle Royale National Park in August, 2020. She previously served as Deputy Superintendent and Acting Superintendent of Denali National Park from 2016-2020. Prior to that, she was the Superintendent of Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana from 2012-2016. Ms. Swanke has also worked at Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Zion National Park.
